SOF units have been in high demand for decades, and there is little sign that this will alter in the foreseeable future. Concerns about standards and requirements being lowered to fill expanding military formations are common among members of the Special Operations community. At its very foundation is a belief in the power of physical strength, stamina; exceptional marksmanship; unconventional problem solution. Is it a given that these characteristics will be necessary in the future? Special Operations Forces (SOF) must adapt to a landscape of various, different, sophisticated, and seemingly unexpected threats, according to the articles in this issue of the Special Operations Journal assessed.
