Sub-Saharan migrants, ethnography of the Other Stigma and prejudice

Abstract
The trivialization of a discourse with racist overtones targeting sub-Saharan people in Algeria and more broadly in the Maghreb, as well as the criminalization of the migration issue, raises the problem of conceiving the Sahara as a space of mobility between the north and the south of the African continent. While the theme of pan-Africanism remains omnipresent in official speeches, both in the Maghreb and in sub-Saharan Africa, the human mix between the two parts of the continent remains more anemic than ever, fueling a real distrust towards "the other". Today, an eloquent form of racism is taking shape in Algeria.
