Socio economic aspects of chicken production in Jimma Horro Area of Kellem Wollega Zone, Ethiopia

Abstract
A current work was accompanied in Kellem Wollega Zones Jima Horo District, Western Ethiopia to evaluate Socio economic aspects of chicken production. The result of the study has indicated that there are no cultural or religious taboos connected to production and consumption of poultry (chickens) and chicken products in the Jimma Horro District. About 41.8% of the respondents reported to consume eggs 12 times a year whereas as 39.4and18.8% of the respondents consumes 4 and 8times in a year. . The purpose of egg production in the study areas was reported to be for sale income generated (45%), incubation (35%) and consumption (20%) showing that household chicken production is for source of family income in the Jimma Horro District.
