Abstract
Background : Owning pets helps to lead a happy life. Owning pets at home relieves us from stress and helps us to maintain good health. Owning pets affects our lives in a good way. Pets increase health or life expectancy. Pets are lovely and friendly. They are considered as part of the family. Aim : To analyse the knowledge, attitude and practice about owning pets in home. Materials and methods : A cross-sectional survey was conducted among dental students with a sample of 100. A self-administered structured questionnaire was prepared based on knowledge, attitude and practice about owning pets in home with 11 questions. Survey was done using an online form. The statistics was done using SPSS software, chi square test was used to check the association and p value of 0.05 was said to be statistically significant. Results :83% of the students like pets. 65% of the students like to spend their time with pets. Most people don’t ignore pets when they approach(50%). 77% of the people think that spending time with pets can relieve their stress and make them free from depression. Most of the people behave with pets in a friendly way. Many people observed behavioural changes on owning pets(50%). Participants feel that pets affect health life expectancy. Conclusion : According to the survey, most people who like pets love to spend time with them. Most of the students never ignore pets. Owning pets acts as stress busters. People love to take their pets for a walk. Owning pets most probably doesn’t cause any allergies and they increase energy levels. Most of the people feel happy to have pets at their home
