Abstract
Objectives: Its investigation aimed to discover refractive problems and the root reasons of untreated impaired vision
in children aged 5 to 16.
Material & Methods: Between September 2021 to January 2022, 1500 students from rural and urban areas in India
participated in this cross-sectional survey. Before beginning the study, authorization from the Institutional Ethical
Review committee was obtained. Nonprobability sampling was used to choose the students for the study. The
administration provided the list of remote schools for female pupils. The principal of the school granted permission
for the screening of the students. The study enrolled 1500 children from schools that had given approval. Result:
Myopia was identified in 39 percent of students, whereas hyperopia was found in 5 percent, and astigmatism was
found in 56 percent. Conclusion: A most common refractive defect in children is myopia astigmatism. Preventable
childhood morbidity can be reduced through widespread screening of school-age children and the implementation of
basic therapies like glasses correction.
