Abstract
Aim: This experimental work aims to minimise the Surface Roughness (SR) by comparing Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) insert and uncoated (cemented carbide) insert during CNC turning of LDX 2101 duplex stainless steel. Material and Methods: In this work, CBN insert was taken as an experimental group and cemented carbide insert was taken as control group. Machining parameters followed were cutting speed, feed and depth of cut. Total number of groups was two and 27 samples for both CBN insert and cemented carbid insert were used for conducting experiments. Result: Obtained mean SR value for CBN insert was 0.5185 µm and for cemented carbide insert was 3.8278 µm. Significant difference between two inserts was 0.004 (p<0.05). Conclusion: Within the limits of this work,CBN insert provides higher surface finish than uncoated insert during machining process.
