MOST COMMONLY PRESCRIBED ANALGESIC IN 3-6 YEAR OLD CHILDREN AFTER PULPECTOMY IN PEDIATRIC DENTAL PRACTICEA RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Abstract
AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate the most commonly prescribed among 3-6 years old children after pulpectomy in pediatric dental practice. INTRODUCTION Pain is an unpleasant multidirectional experience which comprises strong sensory and cognitive components. Dental caries remain a global health problem throughout the world. The prevalence of postoperative pain in children has been reported to be 65% in dental procedures . Taking control of pain is of high importance in the field of pediatrics dentistry because the concept of dental care has been stabilized in people’s minds since childhood MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross sectional study was conducted in the hospital setting of the University. All the records of the patients of the age group 3-6 years old who had undergone pulpectomy in the university dental hospital during the period of study were included in this study. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Among 2480 patients 41.73% of children were prescribed with IbuclinJr, 33.23% of children were prescribed with Ibugesic plus, 18.55% of the children were prescribed with P125, 5.85% of the children were prescribed with P250 and the rest of the children were prescribed with combinations of these drugs. CONCLUSION From this we observed that 41.73% of the 3-6 years old children were prescribed IbuclinJr after undergoing pulpectomy. IbuclinJr was the most commonly prescribed analgesic among male children when compared to female children.
