Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Vital pulp therapy is a treatment in which the pulp is preserved and
maintained. This therapy is done if the pulp is damaged by caries, traumatic incidents or during
restorative procedures. Dental caries which reach pulp causes pulp irritation which leads to
inflammation of the pulp and it changes into reversible and irreversible changes of pulp where
reversible can be treated using vital pulp therapy and the irreversible change ends in necrosis
of pulp. The main goals of vital pulp therapy are dentin formation and development of the
root. Vital pulp therapy includes procedures like pulp capping (Direct and Indirect), pulpotomy
and Apexification. The most important benefit of vital pulp therapy is that it protects the tooth
from masticatory forces and when compared to root canal treatment. The main aim of this study
is to determine the knowledge, awareness and perception regarding vital pulp therapy.
