Abstract
Introduction: Provisional restoration is an important part of prosthetic therapy procedures with fixed
prosthesis (i.e.,crown and bridges). Provisional restoration serves an important role during tooth
preparation and until fitting, luting the final fixed restoration. These include pulpal tissue protection
against physical, chemical and thermal injuries; maintenance of positional stability and occlusal function;
and provision of the prepared teeth with strength, retention, aesthetics which are essential to clinical
success.
Aim:The aim of the study is to assess knowledge, awareness, perception on composite provisional crown
among dental students.
Materials and Method:The questionnaire based study was conducted among 100 participants. A selfadministered questionnaire was used. The questionnaire based study was conducted through an online
forum, google form software. The questions were formed to observe knowledge, awareness and
perception on composite provisional crowns among dental students. The data collected were stored and
results were analysed by SPSS software.
Results:Out of 100 participants, 45% males and 55% females. 33% of the participants reported Bis acryl,
28% urethane dimethacrylate, 21% PMMA, 18% BisGMA were the type of composite provisional crown
materials used in their practices.Majority of respondents reported that interns and final year students have
more knowledge about the advantage of composite provisional crown with the rest of material materials
used in provisional crown (Pearson chi square value- 24.972 ; p -value = 0.02 < 0.05 which is statistically
significant)
Conclusion:The present study suggested that even though the majority of the interns and final year had
adequate knowledge about composite provisional crown.
