Incidence of Dry Socket after extraction in Private Dental College in Chennai

Abstract
Introduction: Dry socket, also termed fibrinolyticosteitis or alveolar osteitis, is a complication of tooth exodontia. A dry socket lesion is a post-extraction socket that exhibits exposed bone that is not covered by a blood clot or healing epithelium and exists inside or around the perimeter of the socket or alveolus for days after the extraction procedure. The prevention methods include avoiding smoking before and after surgery and traumatic surgery, the use of antibiotics, such as, azithromycin, can be considered, the other preventive measures such as chlorhexidine rinse or gel can be effective in the reduction of dry socket incidence.
