Health care ethics among dental students - A Knowledge Attitude and Practice Survey

Abstract
BACKGROUND:A dental practitioner has a greater position of trust within society. As a result, it demands a great commitment to the society to which all the members will have to adhere to the high ethical standards of conduct. Dental practitioners have to have a conduct to their professional life, in parallel with the fundamental principles of ethics. AIM:This study aims to assess the knowledge,attitude and practice of healthcare ethics among dental students MATERIALS AND METHODS:This study is a questionnaire based survey study among dental students on health care ethics.A total of 150 participants took part in the study through Google Forms a Free Online survey platform. Based on the responses of the participants statistical tests such as frequency and descriptive tests were performed and the results were systematically assessed and presented. RESULTS:Gender wise distribution of our study population with predominance of male gender(62.6%).Age wise distribution of our study population with predominance of 22-23 age group (46%) followed by 20-21 age group (35.33%) Both males 55.33% and female 31.33% discussed the course of treatment with their patient while 6% of females and 7.33% of males did not discuss the course of treatment with their patients. CONCLUSION:The current study concludes that the knowledge, attitude and practice of healthcare ethics among dental students is below par.Better knowledge and awareness can be cultivated by enforcing the morales of ethics and the code of conducts in the learning period
