Abstract
Sanitation is defined as the access to make use of facilities and services that are aimed at safe disposal of human urine and feces. [1]
Humans were generating waste by producing excrement since the beginning of their life form. The first humans to live on the face of the earth were hunters – gatherers. Excreta disposal wouldn’t have been too much of a problem and was probably managed by burying feces under the ground every time a person defecates. Since the pre – historic human communities were mostly nomadic buried feces would have been left there to be disposed off by natural processes. [2] Mentions of safe disposal of excrement has been recorded in the bible in Deuteronomy 23. Vedic texts and literature from sangam period all mention about importance of safe disposal of excretion
