Abstract
In the matter of fact, many of the women had achieved remarkable positions during the pre-Islamic era, but with the emergence of Islam, the majority of them got liberation from their dominated and subjugated life. The Muslim women are considered as essential part of society during the period of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). Women also contributed men in social, economic and social affairs. The liberty of women writers and poetess were also witnessed during the reign of Umayyads.Although, the holy Quran spoke of love and respect between the men and women and laid down women’s rights in marriage, divorce, inheritance and other matters. But during the Abbasid period, women were
veiled, neglected and unjustly treated. Moreover, the women’s movements were also restricted as the attitude of men changed towards women.The condition got worsen in the nineteenth century during the reign of Ottoman Empire, because the women were considered as useless and nothing of that sort of importance from her birth itself.
