Abstract
The Internet is an integral part of most college students, with over 90 percent of college students having access to the Internet. Cyberspace and blogosphere are the new world of the young generation who exploit and use all the possibilities of the digital environment. Both the Internet and online social network sites can affect a student's academic performance. The rapid development of electronic media with all their potential to change the pattern in which one gathers and communicates information, has brought about positive and negative possibilities of using and abusing the media. On the positive side, electronic media like the Internet allow us to communicate faster, to retrieve and handle information more easily, and to copy and distribute it in innumerable numbers. On the negative side, it raises concerns about the possibility of accessing and distributing unwanted information, plagiarism, security threats, etc. These concerns may be worsened by their relative lack of Internet sophistication compared to their children. The combination of the rapid growth of the Internet, not knowing the effects of Internet use, and concerns about the negative consequences of Internet use have created a climate where bad news can flourish.
