Abstract
Objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the cause of the annual death of about 3 million
people and accounts for 4.8% of the total mortality, and by 2030 it may reach the 4th place in terms of mortality
(WHO). The risk of death in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease increases depending on the
number of cases of exacerbations. Pharmacoepidemiological study of the use of medicines – makes it possible to
get an idea of the real state of the use of medicines in the clinic. The objective was to determine the relationship
between irrational use and incorrect dosing regimen of ABP with their effectiveness.
Material and Method: The retrospective analysis of 444 case histories of patients with acute COPD was carried
out. The results were statistically analysed and correlated.
Result and Discussion: Cephazolin and ceftriaxone were used most often from the group of cephalosporins. The
use of low doses of cephazolin and cefepime, longer use of antibacterial agents than the average duration of
antibacterial therapy, i.e. irrational use and incorrect dosing regimen are common mistakes in the use of ABP, and
this in its turn contributes to the decrease in their effectiveness and development of microbial resistance to these
drugs.
