Abstract
In the present scenario people are living with plastics because day today life is filled with
plastics and its any source being taken easy for living. Hence the present study focus on plastic
degradation with two bacterial strains viz., Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus,
isolated from soil sample located in Nadar Saraswathi College of Arts and Science, Theni, Tamil
Nadu, India. Plastics are of different types in this study three different plastics viz., HDPE, LDPE
and MDPE were screened for their percentage weight loss using plastic degrading bacterial
pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aereus. The degradation study was carried out for a
period of 30 days in minimal salt medium and the study was regularly monitored with an interval of
5 days. The maximum percentage weight loss is observed with 20.71(LDPE), 20.00 (MDPE) and
17.80 (HDPE) by pseudomonas aeruginosa followed by 19.20 (LDPE), 18.70 (MDPE), and 16.80
(HDPE) by Staphylococcus aereus on 30th day at 37ᵒC.
