Abstract
A child or any living being, that has lost both parents is referred to as an orphan. When a
parent dies, a child's life is turned upside down, and he or she becomes an orphan or a
vulnerable child (OVC). This tragic transition may include transferring from a middle or
upper-class urban household to an economically deprived rural relative's home, separation
from siblings, and being accepted to an orphanage home/institution without appropriate
consideration of their requirements. The present study attempts to know the educational
aspiration and to understand the perception of study environment towards orphans in Aizawl
District of Mizoram (India). The descriptive research design and survey method were
followed for this study. The data were collected from 256 orphans by using a self-structured
interview schedule. The orphans were selected from 5 different orphanages in the study area.
The statistical technique like ‘Z’ test used to check the significant difference between
variables. The findings of the study revealed that the majority of orphanages have strong
infrastructure, environment, and atmosphere, all of which are critical in educating children.
This research has shed light on the orphans numerous educational issues, which are critical
since children are the nation's builders, and education should be a top focus.
