Abstract
Teachers can structure the minds of the upcoming generations and can motivate their students better by opening the doors of knowledge and life. An emotionally intelligent teacher can establish a better connection with the students that lasts forever. The objectives of the study were: i) to find out the level of emotional intelligence of prospective teachers in Kanniya kumari District in total and with respect to dimensions namely self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills ii) to find out the significant difference in the mean scores of emotional intelligence of prospective teachers with respect to background variables namely locality of institution, marital status and major subject. Normative survey method was used in this study.
