EFFECT OF STRESS ON PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL BEING AT VARIOUS LEVEL OF COMPETITION IN PROFESSIONAL INDIAN SHOOTERS

Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the effect of stress on psychological well being of shooters at various level of
competition in professional Indian shooters. A total of 100 shooters participated in the study 50 males and 50
females. They were assessed on three different levels being pre competition, during competition and post
competition. The scales used for the study are Perceived stress scale and Ryff’s scales of psychological well being.
All the participants were professional target shooting players and have at least participated in state level shooting
competition in past on year. The age range was 16 to 30 years. The pre competition stress score was higher in the
male group and comparatively lower in the female group, though the difference was non significant .The during
competition score had marginal and non significant difference with males having a higher score compared to the
females . The post competition stress mean score was higher in the female group compared to the males which was
not significant. The overall psychological well being was observed to be better in females which is non significant.
