Abstract
This study aims to identify the main difficulties faced by secondary school students in learning geography in Algeria, with a specific focus on the province of Laghouat. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology, using questionnaires and statistical tools to collect data from a sample of 200 students and 50 geography teachers across various high schools. The findings reveal that students mainly struggle with understanding maps, grasping abstract geographical concepts, and maintaining motivation, in addition to the lack of adequate teaching aids. On the teachers’ side, major challenges include insufficient professional training, limited access to modern visual tools, and an overloaded curriculum. The study recommends a thorough reconsideration of geography teaching methods, curriculum development adapted to the local context, and the integration of educational technologies in classroom practices.
