Abstract
In India, transgender persons are usually referred to as "Hijra" (Gurvinder Kalra,2012). In Indian mythology, their presence is documented. Shikhandi, a Hijra who played a significant part in the Battle of Kurukshetra, is mentioned in the Mahabharata. Documentary evidence proved the presence of "Khojwa" (Transgender) who played a crucial role in protecting the Mughal harem. They were components of several Indian rites. Since the British invasion, they have been ruthlessly abused. Thus, the contemporary health care system did not account for transsexual individuals
