Abstract
Aim:To clinically and radiographically evaluate the efficacy of cast metal post and glass fiber post in hopeless
teeth.
Materials & Methods: Total twenty teeth were included in the study in which post and core therapy planned.
Root canal treatment was completed in all selected teeth by standard manner. All samples were divided into two
major groups. Group one sample was restored by cast metal post and group two samples were restored by glass
fiber post. Both groups had ten samples each. All subjects were recalled after eight days for the radiographic and
clinical evaluation of the rehabilitated teeth. Various clinical and radiographical parameters were evaluated in
both groups. Results thus obtained was compiled and sent for basic statistical analysis. P value less than 0.05 was
considered significant (p< 0.05).
Results: Out of 20 patients, males were 12 and females were 8. Three patients were identified in age group of
41-45 years. P value was significant for this group (0.01). For group I, only one tooth showed sign of crown
breakage. Esthetic matters were severe in four teeth while core dislodgment was there in one tooth. For group II,
only one tooth showed sign of crown breakage. Similarly, only one tooth showed sign of mobility. Crack in root
was seen in one tooth while periapicalradiolucency was also noticed in one tooth. Periapicalradio-opacity was
noticed in one tooth. P value was significant for periapicalradio-opacity.
Conclusion: Authors concluded that clinical-radiological performance was superior in the teeth restored with
glass fiber post especially in terms of aesthetics. Hence, glass fiber post is a superior and promising option when
compared with cast metal post.
