Abstract
Introduction : Monolithic Zirconia crowns was introduced as the first option for full contour monolithic
restorations mainly because of its advantages like esthetics, excellent mechanical properties, superiority
to other ceramic systems, high corrosion resistance, radiopacity, good chemical properties, stability and
elasticity
Aim: This study focuses on assessing the awareness of dental practitioners on monolithic zirconia
crowns.
Materials and method:This study was designed as a survey conducted through an online platform
where a total of 100 dental practitioners were included .Convenient sampling methodology was used.
Questionnaires regarding monolithic zirconia crowns were distributed among the subjects.Data collection
was done using the distribution of questionnaires. 100 subjects were included in the study and assessed
for age and gender. All responses were cross verified by another examiner. Data was imported to excel
sheet and tabulated.
Results:Among the 100 dental practitioners, 68 % stated that monolithic zirconia crowns were most
commonly used for posterior teeth restorations in fixed dental prosthesis followed by 18% veneers and
14% implant restorations . The majority of the study population (98% ) agreed that monolithic zirconia
crowns have excellent mechanical properties related to transformation toughening . When asked about the
aesthetics, 85% agreed that monolithic zirconia crowns have enhanced natural appearance compared to
metal ceramics
Conclusion: The present study showed that dentists are quite knowledgeable about the uses and
properties of monolithic zirconia crowns .However ,more awareness can further be created to popularize
esteti restorations among patients.
