Abstract
Introduction:
Restoration of endodontically treated teeth continues to be a challenge in restorative dentistry. A common
protocol for restoring such teeth has been to use a post and core to aid the retention of an overlying crown.
However, many clinical and laboratory studies have reported that placing a post will contribute to the retention
of the core portion of the restoration but may have a weakening effect on the root. The aim of the study is to
create awareness on post endodontic restoration among dental students
Materials and Methods:
A survey was conducted among dental students about knowledge and awareness about post Endodontic
restoration in dentistry. The sample size of this survey is a total of 100 people. It consists, questions pertaining
to demographic data and questions regarding research objectives. 10 questions were circulated to the
participants in a google. The entered data were analysed using SPSS. Descriptive analysis was performed to
calculate frequencies of categorical variables. (p<0.05)
Results and Discussion:
69% of the participants were female and remaining 31% of them were male . When asked about function of
endodontic restoration 34% of the participants replied by saying to decrease the risk of root fractures, 30% of
them answered to retain a core material, 26% of them answered all of the above and remaining 10% of them
answered for the distribution of masticatory forces to the root Conclusion:
From the above study we can conclude that more than half of the population were aware about the post
endodontic restoration .The shortcoming of the questionnaire was that it did not distinguish between the
restoration of anterior and posterior teeth.
