Abstract
Introduction: The term endodontic treatment covers all aspects of repair and treatment of a tooth in which the pulp has
been either damaged or exposed as well as the treatment of periapical tissues. Proper knowledge about the treatments and
procedures makes it easier for the doctor and the patient in finding a solution to the respective endodontic treatment.
Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the awareness about endodontic treatments, the advantages and disadvantages of
it among a rural population
Materials and methods: A cross sectional survey based analysis was conducted among a rural population online. A self
structured questionnaire containing 16 questions were circulated online through a google forms link. The collected
responses were statistically analysed in SPSS software. The analysed results were depicted in the form of pie charts and
graphs.
Results: From the responses collected from the survey conducted, we can understand that almost everyone was aware
about what endodontics was. 36 percent of the participants belonged to the age group 21to 25 years. Almost half of the
population had the thought that an inflammation in the pulp, or a trauma or the loss of tooth will need immediate attention
from an endodontist. 91 percent of the population were aware that root canal treatment was an endodontic procedure. 83
percent of participants had the thought that an endodontic ally treated tooth is weaker than a normal tooth.
Conclusion: From the above results obtained we can conclude that people in the rural population have required
knowledge about endodontic treatments. The only issue is that there are not enough dental clinics or consultants. By
establishing more clinics and by conducting camps, people can be given more awareness about endodontic treatments.
