Abstract
Fabrication of provisional restorations is an important procedure in fixed prosthodontics. Provisional
restorations must satisfy the requirements of pulpal protection, positional stability, occlusal function,
ability to be cleansed, margin accuracy, wear resistance, strength, and esthetics. They serve the critical
function of providing a template for the final restorations once they have been evaluated intraorally. It is a
survey based study conducted in an online setting, done among the Undergraduate students . The sample
size is 100 undergraduate students . Sampling method used is simple random sampling. Randomisation
was done to minimise bias. Internal validity was a pretested questionnaire. External validity was
Homogenisation, replication of experiment and cross verification with existing studies. Data analysis was
done in SPSS software. Statistical test used was the chi square test. Dependent variables were
demographics such as age, gender. Independent variables were materials used in provisional crowns .
39.0% responded Acrylics as the commonly used material for single and multiple unit provisional crowns
. 73.0% responded Acrylics are more versatile than other materials . 39.0% of the participants responded
that Bis-acryl materials are more commonly used than other materials .Most of the undergraduate
students think acrylics are best for provisional crowns . This study aims to establish awareness on various
materials used in fabrication of provisional crowns.
