AWARENESS ON DENTAL FLUOROSIS AMONG RURALPOPULATION

Abstract
Introduction:- Fluorosis is a crippling and painful disease caused by over intake of fluoride. Fluorosis can be classified
into dental fluorosis and skeletal fluorosis. The first sign of dental fluorosis is exhibited as fluoride toxicity in the form of
"mottled enamel." Groundwater is considered as the major source of drinking water in most of the part of India.
Aim- To assess and create awareness among rural about dental fluorosis
Materials and Method:- A questionnaire was prepared with all the questions regarding this study. This questionnaire
was transferred into a survey and the survey was circulated on the online platform among students and faculty of the
college.
Results:- 39.0% of the participants belonged to the age group of 15-25years, 33% aged between 26-35 years and 18%
aged between 36-45 years and 10% aged above 45 years.Males have more awareness (38%) than females but it is
statistically not significant. Chi square test, p=0.346.
Conclusion
This analysis of responses given by 100 participants from the rural area around Chennai city shows that knowledge on
dental fluorosis is minimal and needs to be improved.
