Abstract
Background: Maintaining Oral hygiene is just as important as maintaining proper general hygiene is one of the recent statements which has been primarily focused and proved in the recent decades. It has been estimated that 20% of adults have at least one missing tooth which is the commonest developmental tooth abnormality seen nowadays. Missing teeth seems to be a common and less focused issue but which causes bone loss, speaking and chewing problems , damage adjacent tooth structures, etc.Dental implant therapy is replacing dental prosthesis in the place of previous tooth loss or any tooth abnormalities. Survey was done to compare the patients' satisfaction and expectations towards the implant therapy before and after undergoing the treatment in virtue of their functioning and aesthetics of the implants. Aim: to study the awareness about dental implant therapy among rural populations in India. Materials and methods: A set of 10 self evaluable questionnaires were prepared, approved by the faculty members of the institution. The questionnaire validity checking was done by the principal investigator and guide. The questionnaire was then circulated among rural populations in India and collected 101 responses in a randomised sampling method. The data was collected, analysed and figuratively represented for result analysis. Results : About 64.4% of the participants were aware whereas 35.6% of the participants were unaware about dental implants as an alternative to missing tooth.Majority, 53.5% of the population thought unnecessary, 16.8% thought its invasive, 11.9% reported to be anxious while the remaining( 17.8%) have no idea regarding their opinion towards dental implant treatments. The association between the age distribution of the study population and their awareness towards dental implants were studied using chi square analysis, where p=0.00, statistically significant.(p>0.05). Conclusion: There exists significant awareness towards the knowledge about dental implant treatments while awareness towards the importance of dental implants has been improved so that their use will be well known and used to their full potential. The association between the age distribution of the study population and their awareness towards dental implants was analyzed using chi square analysis, which was found to be statistically significant.
