A Study on the Adjustment Challenges of Adolescent Students in Relation to Academic Achievement

Abstract
Adolescence is a transitional fettle of physical and psychological development that generally betides during the
period from puberty to adulthood. Adjustment at a specific moment in time, considering an individual's adjustment
to one challenge, not to all challenges they have faced. Successfully adjusting to one scenario can be independent of
struggling to adjust to another, unrelated scenario. The aim of this study was to explore the differences in the
academic achievements among adolescent students having different levels of adjustments such as home, health,
social and emotional. The present study was conducted on the random sample of 100 adolescent students (N=100),
Male (N1=50) and Female (N2=50) studying grade IX of Secondary schools. Adjustment Inventory for adolescent
student (BAI) developed by Bell (1968) of Stanford University was used as tool to collect the data from the
adolescent students. The findings of the study reveal that those who had unsatisfactory home adjustment had
significantly lesser academic achievement scores than those who had average home adjustment and Health, Social
and emotionally adjustments did not have significant influence over academic of the students. Adolescent are
encouraged to help each other with schoolwork and to explore their common academic interests adolescent are
expected to develop appropriate social behavior as well as academic competence through collectivities activities.
