Abstract
GC MS analysis study was conducted to learn about the types of molecules present in one herbal medicinal
plant, Evolvulusnummularius. This plant is used ethnobotanically asanthelmintic, antibacterial, blood purifier,
memory enhancer and sedative. Methods: The plant was collected from nearby Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India
and the ethyl acetate extract of the whole plant was done. The extract was further processed before subjecting it
to GC MS analysis. Results: The GC MS profile indicated the presence of some important molecules such as
Me thyl 4-O-methyl-.beta.-D-xylopyranoside, Caryophyllene oxide, n-Hexadecanoic acid, Tetradecanoic acid,
Phytol, 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)-, Methyl 16-hydroxy-hexadecanoate, (E)-4-Hexenoic acid, 2-acetyl-2-
(1-buten-3-yl)-, ethyl ester, .beta.-Tocopherol, O-methyl-, Stigmasterol, .beta.-Sitosterol, 6a,14aMethanopicene, perhydro-1,2,4a,6b,9,9,12a-heptamethyl-10-hydroxy-, p-Coumaric acid, Betulin, Z-(13,14-
Epoxy)tetradec-11-en-1-ol acetate etc. The medicinal roles of these molecules could be related to the medicinal
roles of this plant
